That's a good question there. F...@King Freaky,

That's a good question there. First of all, though, I should try to clarify what you mean by "the most cinematic look."

I assume you're talking about depth of field, since that's what most often helps video cameras feel more cinematic. But there's other factors such as colors and contrast that play an important part in getting a good cinematic look.

One of the best routes to a very cinematic look is to use Prime Lenses. That is, fixed focal length lenses (not zoom lenses). But you want to have option os for wide shots, medium shots, and close up shots. And these lenses do get expensive.

What I often do is that I shoot 75% of my video footage with my Canon 50mm 1.8f prime lens. I do my best to shoot as close to open as possible for a very shallow DoF, and the 50mm works well for mediums and close ups. You just have to move the camera. Then for wide shots I toss on my 18-55mm zoom lens and leave it on the wide end of things. It's an inexpensive way to do it and still looks good as DoF is not noticeable in most wide shots.

So to start things off, I would definitely look into getting the Canon 50mm 1.8f or even the 50mm 1.4f (which is nicer, but also costs more).

Does that help?Mikel J. You have given the best rundown of the limitations of the HDSLR's. I've been shooting on the 7D for 6 months now, down here on Cape Cod, and although there are problems with Moire, and buffer problems, its a fantastic camera for the price.

Once again, fantastic articleZachttp://www.zaccrosby.comnoreply@blogger.com
